Where Is My Inspiration? Wall Balls.

Get ready for a CrossFit-themed post today, folks! You’ve been warned. :)

I followed Lisbeth Darsh’s blog way back when it was still called CrossFit Lisbeth, and have continued to keep up with her writing over at Words With Lisbeth. She put out a feeler on her Facebook page for those interested in undertaking a 5 blog challenge: write every day for 5 days.

So I took her up on that offer and here I am. Posting on a Monday at my once-a-week blog. Craziness, I know.

But where is my inspiration? Where do I need to go to snag a little insight into my happiness? That’s the point of my blog: choose happy every day by finding something that makes me happy in every situation. That is a tough charge, I know. And I struggle with it every day. EVERY day. ESPECIALLY today.

Where is my inspiration for today’s post? Wall balls.

I truly think of them as God’s idea of humor. Squat, stand, throw, get hit in the face. Repeat. How am I supposed to choose happy in the middle of a wall ball workout. It’s almost impossible.

Here was the WOD (a partner WOD!):

  • 30 Wall Balls
  • 30 Box Jumps
  • 30 Wall Balls
  • 30 Pull Ups
  • 30 Wall Balls
  • 30 Burpees
  • 30 Wall Balls
  • 30 Clean & Jerks (135/85)
  • 30 Wall Balls

Oh, and you have to do 2 rounds.
Oh, and you have to do 15/15 wall balls unbroken.
Oh, and you can’t drop the ball until all 30 are done.
Oh, and in between rounds you can’t rest in between the 30+30 wall balls.

Tell me where happiness is when it comes to wall balls?

My answer: now. The moment 3 hours later when you are eating ice cream on your couch, watching Ellen’s Design Challenge on HGTV, and typing up a blog about how much wall balls are a happiness suck.

I live for this moment… when the pain is done, when you can smile that it’s over, and when you can dive in to some ice cream your friends left at your house in December.

The ice cream is still good and my legs are definitely screaming, but that’s where my happiness is at the moment. And while the wall balls were actually going on? I was thinking of only the numbers increasing one at a time. And when my 15 unbroken wall balls were done I was thinking about just being done!!!

That’s a happy moment.

  1. Three years ago, I started off crying, cursing and walking away from wall balls. Then, I made peace with them after Karen. Now, I like them in a twisted, demented sort of way. Love your post!

  2. I laugh during wall balls (if you haven’t read my post on the group yet.) My coach asked me tonight – do you laugh when you hit yourself in the face too? I said “Yes! Every time!” and laughed some more :-)

  3. I needed some ice cream tonight. It was lots and lots of balls. Every time I turned around I had to pick up that damn ball. Oddly, I am learning to embrace them. But only when my friends suffer through it with me. Love you. Love the post!!!
